Imagining new worlds
a workshop with Osheen Siva

12th November 2022
2-5pm IST

Osheen Siva hosts a workshop, co-organised with Priteegandha Naik and K.A. Geetha, in Goa.

The aim of the Imagining New Worlds workshop is to identify a significant anti-caste event in Dalit history to celebrate and create new mythologies through speculative fiction and futurism.

There are fifteen spaces available, and these are given on a first come first served basis. Bookings can be made directly through the organisers.

We will provide a list of historical moments significant in the Dalit movement that the participants can choose from. Reading materials on futurism and anti-caste perspectives will also be provided (as well as the video link of the conversation between Subash Thebe Limbu and Osheen Siva) so that attendees can start thinking about their idea or concept.

On the day of the workshop, the participants will be invited to make a short presentation of their topics and discuss how they plan to incorporate this into their work. During the workshop, they will be assisted to bring their idea to life. The workshop will end with a final presentation by the participants.

The workshop will take place at BITS Pilani.

The workshop

  • The workshop starts with research (one event each).

  • A history and introduction to protest art posters (Dalit Panther newsletter, Keith Harring, 70’s Punk Posters, Panther’s Paw Publication + Shiva Nallaperumal, Siddharth Gautham) will be provided.
  • Participants will have the opportunity to create a character/setting /narrative.
